The Path v1

Right now, my plan is as follows: 1) Study all Professor Messer SY0-701 videos free on YouTube - Completed(repeatedly, all 100+) 2) Complete TryHackMe's CyberSecurity 101 path - In Progress 3) Practice Tests for CompTIA Security+ - In Progress 4) Complete course work and test preparation for ISC2's Certified in Cybersecurity Certification. More after the jump.

So initially, I am going after Security plus and Certified in Cybersecurity. I would like to complete these before the 2nd half of 2026. However I am not limiting myself - if I do this faster, I will keep my foot on the gas. I am not sure how TryHackMe fits into the equation but the hands on experience has been worth it so far.

Once those 2 are down, Google's Certified in Cybersecurity, CCNA, and Network plus would be the next certifications to prepare for. I have already been collecting educational resources for these. I also keep scooping up great free educational resources off of social media. I am prioritizing based on usefulness - I think it might be easy to get analysis paralysis. If I am going after it, it must be part of the path to hired. Not just for simple enrichment purposes.

I would be applying for entry level roles once I get the first 2 certifications. I have no qualms about rejection and expect it to be rough sledding. My HR background would come in useful here as I have interviewed hundreds of candidates. I just need to get my foot in the door. Other certifications I would be going after:

1) CISSP

2) AWS Cloud Practitioner

3) Microsoft Certs in Azure

4) Fortanet Certification

5) Linux and Redhat Certifications

6) Aviatrix ACE Multicloud Associate

PROJECTS

It is not lost on me that projects are a key piece of this puzzle. Right now I do not have a plan for this but I am scooping up ideas and resources. I am good at finding people smarter than me in many contexts and places. Cybersecurity has been much the same. Generous, talented people tend to share their knowledge.

I expect Networking(IRL, with people) to be a component of this as well. As I progress I will be looking for cybersecurity events in my area.
